Statewide, Simultaneous Healthcare Day of Action

Events Across New Mexico
Saturday, June 17th, 10:00-11:00am

Complete list of locations at bottom

The Republican plan to gut Medicaid and take away basic protections for people with pre-existing conditions is not only a threat to the health of every American, but it's an attack on the services many of our members, from nurses to HSD workers to Department of Health employees.  For many of us the Trump/GOP plans are also a financial disaster--the plan passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and supported by Pres. Trump would increase out-of-pocket costs for people over 50 by $1,000 a month or more.

ALBUQUERQUE : 10:00-11:00am.   Location : The small park on Lomas across from UNMH Emergency Room. Focus is on citizen healthcare stories. ABQ event information here.

The Senate Republican Healthcare Plan will be voted on this month!

Behind closed doors, Sen. McConnell and the all-male committee are secretly negotiating deals on the Senate version of the House's AHCA. There have been zero public hearings, no listening sessions, no feedback from key stakeholders (including health professional organizations, hospitals, or unions),and no input from ANY women senators at all. This bill is being rushed through the CBO for scoring and then launched onto the Senate floor for voting in the next 2 weeks.

If TrumpCare is passed, NM will suffer! For many of you outside of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Cruces, you don't get the chance to participate in rallies that can affect votes in Washington.  But this day of action is different--there are 22 rallies across the state.  Join us and our allies at your nearest rally to protect health care for all Americans this Saturday, June 17th, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and wear your Union Colors!

If AHCA becomes law, impacts in New Mexico are:

  • 250,000 New Mexicans (total 23 million Americans) will lose health insurance coverage.
  • Premiums for older New Mexians will skyrocket.
  • Medicaid will be massively cut, including 336,000 New Mexico kids.
  • Individuals with pre-existing conditions will be subject to faulty and expensive high-risk pools.
  • Insurance companies will be able institute lifetime limits on coverage, even on those with chronic illnesses.
  • Planned Parenthood will be defunded, eliminating essential health services for millions of American women.
  • Families will have to choose between healthcare vs. housing and food.
  • Children, elderly, poor, and disabled will suffer and some will die.
  • Several rural New Mexico hospitals will shrink or close.
  • 36,000 New Mexican jobs will be lost, most in the healthcare sector.
  • NM already has the highest unemployment rate in the U.S.
  • The state will drop into a catastrophic recession.
